The arrangement on the first CD alone is very good, never playing too many slow paced songs in a row. There's always a fast paced and upbeat track to catch your attention after a few soothing and relaxing tracks.

The second CD is a bit different than the first, in that it seems focused on the darker events and happenings in the game. The majority of the songs are in the same category as the intro song. There are, however, some lighter songs on the CD, such as "Flight" which is by FAR the best airship theme I've ever heard, and possibly my favorite song on this soundtrack. The last boss theme, "The One Who Bares His Fangs at God" just has to be the oddest and most unorthodox song of its kind. Instead of being fast paced and full of blaring electric guitars, the song is very soft and eerie. Definitely unusual, but great none the less. The ending music, "Small Two of Pieces ~ Restored Pieces" is one of the two vocal tracks, and is sung incredibly.

Listening to Xenogears Original Soundtrack is simply a joy. The mood range in songs is incredible, while the actual quality of the synth is unbelievable. Whether you're a game music fan or not, you owe it to yourself to pick this up. It's my favorite soundtrack of all time, and because of it, Yasunori Mitsuda deserves my eternal idolizing.
